The fire burned approximately half an acre of Lidsdale State Forest, private land and a rail corridor, starting at approximately 3.30pm on Forest Ridge Drive, Wallerawang.
It started just as the wind peaked in the district, with the Bureau of Meteorology recording gusts reaching a top of 87km/h at Mount Boyce at 3.30pm on Sunday.
Chifley-Lithgow Rural Fire Service district coordinator Gary Hansen paid tribute to the response of the rural fire crews from Rydal, Tarana and Wallerawang in making sure the fire did not spread.
“The quick response from crews prevented this from developing into a much more significant fire,” he said.
A Forestry Corporation crew also attended the fire. Mr Hansen said it was fortunate the fire did not get a chance to spread further into the forest area.
Over the weekend, crews were kept busy, with trees down on Magpie Hollow Road and on McKanes Falls Road, as well as a truck fire on River Lett Hill at 3am on Saturday morning.
