The region looks on track to receive its predicted 70mm of rain today, a godsend for drought-affected farmers but a challenge for motorists who have been warned to take it easy on the roads.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the first rain started falling about 2.30am and is predicted to continue throughout most of the day, with bureau forecasting no let-up until around 8pm.
The top temperature for Lithgow will be 14C with a chance of thunderstorms during the morning and into the evening.
Meanwhile, a sheep graziers’ warning remains in place across the Central Tablelands.
The warning, posted on the bureau’s website, says areas likely to be affected include the Tablelands, Illawarra and Southern Tablelands forecast districts and parts of the Hunter, South Coast, Snowy Mountains and ACT.
“Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and strong southerly winds are expected during Wednesday. forecast districts,” the warning states.
“There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.”
The next warning is scheduled for 11am.
