The new format allows any two players to combine as skip and third but the lead and second are required to be drawn from the pool of remaining players.

“This change eliminates stacked sides and gives the newer club members an opportunity to be in competitive teams,” club president Klaus Fegebank said.

“No longer can the best lead, the best second, the best third and the best skip form a team,” Klaus said.

“Not that these stacked sides were always successful but the change has proved to be very popular with club members,” Klaus said.

The final held earlier this month between Col McDonnell’s side and Joe Eather’s side was an exciting match with great draw bowls from all players.

After 14 ends the score was locked at 15 all but Col and his team were able to slowly pull away by scoring a single on each of the next six ends.

On the last end Joe needing a big score drove at the head only narrowly missing and the final score was 23:15 but all agreed that it was a great match.
