The 21-year-old was named as a finalist in the 2018 NSW Institute of Sport Awards for the Mizuno Young Athlete of the Year.
Sharp said, while he did not receive the award and was unable to attend the ceremony, he felt privileged to have been nominated in the first place.
“It’s always a privilege to be nominated and to be recognised for such an award,” he said.
He also said the person who did win deserved it.
“The cyclist Thomas Cornish has achieved a great deal in the calendar this year, with the pinnacle being a world record for his one kilometre time trial at the Junior World Championships,” Sharp said.
Sharp said he was very happy for Cornish to be recognised and he wished him all the best into the future.
The 2018 NSWIS Awards were held at the Sydney Cricket Ground on November 15 with some of the best sporting talent from across NSW in attendance.
