To gain such awards they must have the support of the Lithgow Council, and I can’t say the same goes for the ratepayers of Portland.
It is over a year since the shopping area footpaths were cleaned. In the past we had a clean every couple of weeks by council staff, but on the casting vote of the then Mayor Statham I believe council staff were replaced by contractors.
Back on Austalia Day just after the celebrations here finished there was a storm which washed out the gardens. Not a thing has been done to repair that damage in ten plus months despite to being drawn to the attention of council, and Deputy Mayor McAndrew.
Just recently there were a few heavier than normal showers of rain and once again water rushed up the pram ramp outside the real estate office as it has done for years again washing out soil and mulch. This pram ramp if of little use because if a car parks there, it can’t be used, and also there is another just metres away.
Via your column I would like to ask council when they are going to pay some attention to the streets of Portland. Portland then might be able to be a contender for an award just like Lithgow.
