It was 100 years ago this Sunday that the World War I Armistice was signed and the servicemen and women who survived the conflict began their long journey home to the Lithgow district. There are special services and events planned throughout the region on November 11.

Remembrance services:
Rydal: A Remembrance Day service will be held at the railway station at 10.30am on Sunday, November 11. Morning tea will follow the service. Inquiries to David Black on 0497 974 747.
Portland: 10.45am at the Wolgan Street memorial, Portland. A new plaque featuring 104 new names will be unveiled.
Lithgow: 10.30am at Queen Elizabeth Park, Lithgow. A new plaque featuring the names of more servicemen and women will be included in the service.
Sunny Corner: 10.50am at Sunny Corner War Memorial, Dark Corner Road. An updated war memorial will be unveiled as well as the launch of a book detailing the service records of the district’s enlistees. Copies of the book will be available for sale on the day.
Oberon: 10.55am at Memorial Park, Oberon.
Lithgow Cemetery, 2pm: A new bronze plaque will be unveiled on the memorial rock at Anzac Memorial Garden in Lithgow Cemetery at 2pm on Sunday, November 11. The traditional service will be a tribute to both Australians and New Zealanders who served their country during World War I.
Performances
Highland Pipe Band: At 5pm on Sunday, November 11, Lithgow Highland Pipe Band will gather at the cenotaph in Queen Elizabeth Park, Lithgow, to play ‘The Battle’s O’er’. They will play simultaneously with pipe bands across the globe.
Phoenix Choir: Phoenix Choir is marking the centenary of the end of World War I by staging a special concert featuring Gabriel Faure’s sublime Requiem Mass, arranged for small ensemble by the choir’s musical director, Rowen Fox at Hoskins Uniting Church, Lithgow on Sunday, November 11 at 4pm.
