The school received $2000 in sporting gear including soccer balls, basketballs, skipping ropes, hula hoops, a trampoline, water bottles and school team jerseys.
Lithgow Public School teacher and sports coordinator Jack Wolffs said the addition of gear got better each year.
“It’s pretty consistent, every year it adds to our resources,” he said.
He also said the gear enabled the students to improve their sporting skills at school and be more prepared and competitive in knock out competitions.
“It’s great, it’s exciting because it’s encouraging the kids to do things they probably wouldn’t do if they didn’t have the chance,” he said.
Lithgow Public School was one of many local schools to receive new sports gear.
Schools around the Lithgow region were expected to receive almost $15,000 in gear from collecting more than 300,000 vouchers in the program.
World champion athlete Sally Pearson said it was exciting to hear that so much equipment would be delivered to schools across the community.
“It’s a dream come true for schools to be given all this equipment enabling kids to keep fit and healthy. Hopefully we’ll see future Olympic Champions as a result of this Coles initiative,” she said.
Coles State general manager Emma Bridges said Coles was delighted to deliver sports equipment to local schools.
“We hope the new sports equipment will result in a lot of healthy, active fun for school kids in Lithgow,” she said.
