It officially opened its solar panels, which were installed to allow its centre to reduce its carbon footprint.
Minister Rev Matthew Trounce said, when the Lithgow Environment Group was looking for a venue in town to install solar panels, it seemed like a natural fit.
“[The environment group] said they think Hoskins is a great place for [solar panels]. You help the community here, we want to see if this can help support your work, so you don’t put your money into paying bills,” he said.
Rev Trounce paid tribute to Julie Favell, project officer of Lithgow Environment Renewable Energy Hub, for her tenacity in chasing funding for the project as well as being the energy and driving force behind it.
While she was not able to be there for the official launch of the solar unit, Rev Trounce read a statement from her, expressing her thanks to everyone involved.
“This project has now created a reduction in daytime electricity use which will allow the money that has been saved to go to much needed projects for those in need in our community,” she said.

Ms Favell praised Rev Trounce for being an “innovative thinker” with a passion for his community and the environment.
She recognised the work of LJWSolar in carrying out the installation, and employing the community’s young people to do so. A total of 24 panels have been installed. The project was supported with a community grant of $3000 from Energy Australia.
The remaining funding was sourced via private donations and fundraising events.
