I recently returned from a holiday in Armidale with a friend. We were both impressed with the way the Armidale Visitor Information Centre (AVIC) operates, the service provided in the region, and the friendliness we encountered during our visit.

One particular initiative, sponsored by the Armidale Regional Council and delivered by volunteers through the AVIC, is the Heritage Bus Tour. This free, 2.5-3 hour tour runs daily from Monday to Saturday and provides those onboard with an insight to some of the local places of interest, including the New England Regional Art Museum and ‘Booloominbah’ at the University of New England.
The bus travels around Armidale and the guides provide expert commentary and information about many of the old buildings in and around the city.
There’s so much more to Lithgow than what’s portrayed on the billboards on the Great Western Highway.
Our history and beauty make it a unique and fascinating tourist destination and it would be fantastic to see our Council sponsor a similar initiative to the one delivered by AVIC.
