Hartley Historic Site project officer David Ward said the annual Back to Hartley event, which will be held on Sunday, October 28 this year, was designed to showcase Hartley’s heritage significance.
“This event brings to life various elements of Australian heritage, visitors can get a taste of colonial history through live re-enactments from the Lithgow Living History performance,” he said.

What’s on
- The kids can take out their energy on the free jumping castle
- Pony rides, perfect for younger children. Once they're tired out, they can enjoy a relaxing face painting session.
- Stop by the thrilling snake display for some reptile action
- There'll be a special performance by Sally Anne's dancers
- Get lashed as a convict during the Lithgow Living History performance
- Wander through various handcrafted produce and artisan stalls
- Enjoy a variety of food and coffee outlets, or bring a picnic to enjoy with family and friends.
- Visit the Talisman Gallery to enter the fire poker challenge
- Enjoy food and drinks at the Old Post Office Café
- View the fantastic work of local Indigenous artists in the Kew-Y-Ahn Gallery
- Take a walk along Granite Tors walking track, to see the village from the highest point on the site.
- You'll get the chance to look inside the fascinating convict cells and courthouse.
- Follow the river along the easy Rowsons River walk
- The event showcases a variety of handmade arts, crafts and local produce.
This year the event will raise funds for Lithgow Aged Care.
Back to Hartley will be held at Hartley Historic Site, Old Bathurst Rd (just off Great Western Hwy), Hartley, from 9am to 4pm Sunday, October 28.
Cost is $5 entry fee per vehicle, with small fees for other rides and activities.
