Over the school holidays 11 performance squad swimmers attended a five-day swimming camp at the Australian Institute of Sport.
Lithgow Swimming Club Vice president Peter Evans said the training camp was a great opportunity for the young swimmers.
“They got to experience some high intensity training and were able to kick start their summer training,” he said.
The swimmers were also able to have a session with Olympic gold medal winning Coach, Shannon Rollason.
For more preparation, during the holidays Lithgow had a number of swimmers represent the Mountains and Plains region at a development carnival at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
Now back to school, summer training commenced at Lithgow‘s JM Robson Aquatic Centre on Monday, October 15.
Mr Evans said there were currently 55 swimmers who started weekly training divided into three squads, performance, intermediate and development.
He also said weekly race nights would be held each Friday night for swimmers to put their training into practice.
“This is a great opportunity for swimmers to practice starting and finishing under race conditions in a more relaxed atmosphere,” he said.
Mr Evans urged new members to join Lithgow Swimming Club.
“Come down and have a chat to one of the coaches, we’d love for new swimmers to be involved and encourage parents to become involved also,” he said.
