Preparations for Portland’s month-long Christmas celebrations are in full swing, with Lithgow City Council pledging $3500 in financial assistance to support the 2018 event.

Deputy mayor Cr Wayne McAndrew said the allocation would help the event to successfully follow on from last year.
“Although it was organised in a very short period of time it was very, very successful,” he said.

“This time they have got more time to sort it out.”
Cr Joe Smith said the region was growing its reputation for staging successful events.
“It follows on from council’s support of the fireworks at Wang, Halloween – it’s great community stuff,” he said.
Hire fees for Saville Park and the Crystal Theatre were also waived, as were footpath trading fees.
An amount of $11,250 has been allocated to Christmas decorations for Lithgow, Portland and Wallerawang.
