Lithgow police have warned Newnes State Forest will be regularly patrolled over the warmer months as part of a crackdown on illegal use of vehicles using the area.

“Police are finding an increasing number of unregistered vehicles and unlicensed drivers using Newnes Plateau,” Chief Inspector Chris Sammut said.
“This is not only dangerous for the drivers and passengers in those vehicles and other law abiding visitors, but illegal too.”
Chief Inspector Sammut warned officers would be making regular patrols in the area over the warmer months.
“Significant penalties will be applied for road safety infringements,” he said.
“The Newnes State Forest is a popular recreation destination for Lithgow locals and visitors from Sydney and elsewhere,” Lithgow City Council mayor Ray Thompson said.
“With increasing numbers of people using the forest for a range of activities, it is really important that people behave in safe ways that respect fellow visitors.”
