Young dancers from around the region competed on October 11, 12 and 13 at La Salle Academy’s Bishop Dougherty Hall.
Dance schools from Lithgow, Bathurst, Orange, Cowra, Blue Mountains and Sydney were present.
Event Organiser’s Sheree Curnoe and Michael McCrory travelled from Sydney as part of their mission to offer more to regional towns.
“We never compete with local eisteddfods, but Lithgow dance schools wanted us to come so we did, and we’ll definitely be back,” Sheree said.
Over the three day event entrants competed and were able to progress up in age categories from novice through to opens.
“How it works is each dancer performs, gets adjudicated, given a report and has the chance to win trophies,” Sheree said.
Sheree said there were a range of dances performed at the eisteddfod such as classical, tap, hip hop, jazz, lyrical and contemporary.
“We also have improv where the children listen to the music once and then have to dance on the spot,” she said.
Lithgow dance schools who competed included Dance Collective Studio, La Belle School of Dancing, Absolute Dance Studios and Prudence Schwarz Academy of Dance.
Dance Collective teacher Grace Sharwood said it was a fantastic opportunity for the local schools to get involved.
“There’s a great energy around it and the turnout has been amazing, I’m glad Lithgow’s jumped on the bandwagon,” she said.
Sheree said Ooh La La Dance Extravaganza would definitely come back.
“There’s such a lovely hospitality and feeling about regional eisteddfods and Lithgow’s been great,” she said.
