It was an all Thompson affair at the Lithgow Golf Club when Geoff, Dave and Peter Thompson figured in the winners list following Saturday’s two ball best ball with a single event held in conjunction.
None of the three Thompsons are related but all three handled the rain softened course well with the winners of the two ball being Geoff and Dave Thompson who are noted big hitters making light work of the fairways that yielded no run combining to perfection to amass 51 points.
The score was six points better than runners up Brian Giblett and Brad Preston on 46 points.
The third Thompson, Peter took out the single event with an impressive 41 points.
It is a good time for Peter to hit good form as he will be a part of the four person Scramble team that will defend their title won last year.
In that team will be probably the hottest golfer in the club in Bill Oldfield who again registered the best scratch score with a brilliant 68.
The other two in their team are Ben Oldfield and Mark Willmott who comes in for Dave Muir.
The Scramble is on again this Sunday (Oct 14) and after many years the statewide competition known as the Holden Scramble will now be sponsored by Volkswagen.
The Lithgow part of the tournament has gained the sponsorship of Bathurst Volkswagen and the club is very appreciative of their new sponsor.
The scratch winners from Saturday’s round were: A grade, Bill Oldfield 68; B grade, Dave Thompson 79; C grade, Brian Giblett 95.
Balls cut out on 44 points.
Nearest the pin winners were Nev Kerrison, Jeff Geddes, Peter Ticehurst, Bill Oldfield and Geoff Wheeler.
The draw for the Cock o’ the Walk two ball match play tournament has been done with the first round to be completed by three weeks.
