With the help of many friends, the local radio station and newspapers, funds and supplies came pouring in (including thousands of shoe boxes packed by children with things another child would enjoy including a card or message of love) and on December 13, a convoy of 7 trucks, a team of 18 drivers and a film crew were on their way, given a rousing send off by 5000 people.
The project was called Operation Christmas Child.
And this was the beginning of OCC as we know it today. Shoe boxes of gifts of love have been touching the lives of millions of needy children all over the world ever since.

The last packing day for 2018 will be held on Wednesday, October 10 from 10am at Lithgow Baptist Church on the corner of the Great Western Highway and Lee St). All ages are welcome. Bring food to share and fun and fellowship is guaranteed.
A total of 687 boxes have been packed this year to date.
Additionally, you can collect or drop off packed boxes during business hours at The Professionals in Main Street until October 30. Try to include the six ‘Somethings’ – for school, hygiene, to wear, special, play with and to love.
Organisers state a $10 donation per box will ensure they share God’s love through you wherever it is most needed. Pick up has been confirmed as the first week in November and processing has already begun in the Western Sydney warehouse, where they hope to process 120,000 boxes this year.
