Lithgow City Council elected a new leadership team at a meeting on Monday, September 24. Cr Ray Thompson was voted in as mayor and Cr Wayne McAndrew was re-elected deputy.

There were three nominations for the top job; sitting mayor Cr Stephen Lesslie, Cr Ray Thompson and Cr Maree Statham.
Cr Statham’s nomination was ruled invalid after it failed to get a seconder.
Cr Thompson was elected in a vote split 6-3.
The vote for deputy mayor was a contest between the sitting deputy mayor, Cr Wayne McAndrew and Cr Steve Ring. Cr McAndrew won the vote 5-4.
Cr Thompson made a short statement following his election, pledging his commitment to outcomes for residents for the next two years.
“As councillors, we would like to work as hard as we can for the people of Lithgow for the next two years and certainly provide the services that they expect and they would want from council,” he said.
“I certainly will make some mistakes, I don’t have a lot of experience as chair… but I will certainly try my best.”
