The event is one of the major events on the golfing calendar and it went right down to the wire with Hawes edging out Ross Harrington on the nineteenth hole after the scores were locked on the 18th.
Both had registered some good wins on the way to the final and it was fitting that the final was so close.
It was a particularly good effort by Harrington who is a low single marker and had to give his opponents a number of shots.
It has been a good comeback to golf for Hawes who’s is now playing regular golf after several year’s absence.

A two ball best ball was held last Saturday with some great scores being returned.
The winners with a massive 52 points were Geoff Brooks and Dave Muir who combined to perfection.
Runners up on a creditable 48 points was the team of Max Nightingale and Alex Dengate.
Best scratch scores in each grade went to Andrew Burton 73ocb in A grade, Pat Wall on 82 in B and in C grade Geoff Wheeler on 87.
Nearest the pins were Dave Thompson, Don Wolfenden, Paul Bailey, Darren Hunter and Kev Hanrahan.
Balls in the two ball cut out on 46 points.
Wednesday 9 hole comp: (19/9)
Winner: Brian Quick 28 points, runner up Tony Potts 27 and third Jeff Geddes 26 points. Balls cut out on 22 points and nearest the pins were Al Mostyn and Mark Willmott.
Friday, 9 hole comp: Winner was Mark Willmott. Ball winners: Jeff Geddes, Dave Thompson and Mike Saville.
