Lithgow Workies fundraising event: Visitors flock to Feed Our Farmers | Photos

The Feed Our Farmers fundraising efforts of the Lithgow and District Workmen’s Club have collected more than $21,000 for Rural Aid.

More than $15,000 was collected on Sunday, September 9 alone at the Workies gala event, which included live entertainment, an auction, raffles, guessing competitions and a kids disco.

The full total includes funds donated at the front counter towards hay bales, which has been running for several weeks.

Workies general manager Geoff Wheeler said donations would continue to be taken until at least the end of September. There will also be more raffles held to continue to raise funds.

Mr Wheeler said he had already received many calls from farmers interested in when the feed would be made available.

“The overwhelming response we’ve had shows that there is a considerable amount of need in the area,” he said.

The feed purchased from funds raised will be distributed by Buy a Bale, delivering to farmers who have been registered with Rural Aid.

“The event was called Feed Our Farmers, so it’s not just about feed for stock,” Mr Wheeler said.

“It’s also about the farmers themselves and their families.”

Left over funds will go towards fuel cards, gift cards, groceries, pet food, water and other needs.

“The club would like to thank the community for its support and all the sponsors and suppliers who contributed to the event,” Mr Wheeler said.

He also thanked the Workies staff, many of whom volunteered their time to organise the day and to help out with the activities.

Mr Wheeler also thanked Pete Watson for his time on the day and acting as auction host.

Look out for more fundraising activities coming up, including a raffle featuring four tickets to attend an ARU match in February next year. The raffle will also include a smart tv and other prizes.
