Police are investigating after a teenage boy was injured in what is believed to be an accidental shooting in the state’s central west yesterday.

Just after 9.30am on Sunday, August 26, two boys, aged 16, and a 15-year-old boy were at a property on Ilford Sofala Road, Sofala, about 45km north of Bathurst.
Police have been told the teenagers were hunting, when the 15-year-old boy was shot in the back.
He was taken by ambulance to Bathurst Airport where he was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He remains in a critical but stable condition.
Detectives from Orana Mid-Western Police District attended the property and commenced an investigation.

A 57-year-old man was spoken to at Bathurst Police Station and later released.
Police have seized the man’s firearms and firearms licence as their investigations continue.
