This year’s theme was ‘A favourite family heirloom I have or would like to have’ and entries came in on a range of items, from war memorabilia to a beautifully ornate toy sewing machine.
Denis Chamberlain OAM was a guest speaker for the event, which was held at the Lithgow and District Family History Society rooms.
Following his speech, the essay winner was announced. Matt Drewett from Queensland won with his essay about a belt buckle belonging to his grandfather, which was inscribed with the words ‘God with us’ in German.
The theme of next year’s essay competition was also announced. It will be ‘My favourite rascal’.
