Angel Flight Australia is a charity which coordinates non-emergency flights to assist country people to access specialist medical treatment that would otherwise be unavailable to them because of vast distance and high travel costs.
John Marston, an Angel Flight pilot from Bathurst attended the fundraiser to speak to the guests about what being an Angel Flight pilot means.
“I have done quite a few flights now,” Mr Marston said.
Mr Maston told the audience some personal stories about his involvement with Angel Flight, including the time he was returning a woman and her daughter to Dubbo after the daughter received a cochlear implant as she was born deaf.
He said seeing her eyes light up when she heard her sisters laugh and talk for the first time was incredible.
“It is amazing to be a part of their journey, not a big part, but a part nonetheless,” he said.

Mr Marston hires an aircraft when a job comes in but said most other pilots have their own aircraft as that is more accessible.
“I am proud to be associated with such a wonderful service, and I am rather proud of the work we do,” he said.
Mrs Livingstone said she was happy with the turnout of the fundraiser and proud that so many people would be willing to get behind such a cause.
“Angel Flight do a really good job and don’t get a penny, it really is just a wonderful cause,” she said.
