Whether they were wrestling a baby croc or groups of primary school children, Lithgow High School’s Year 10 students had plenty of excitement over the last two weeks.

There were some very keen young workers at Lithgow and its surrounds, as well as further afield, as the LHS cohort headed out on work experience.
It was a large group – 111 in all - that gained skills in a wide range of areas, from hospitality to health, personal service industry to education.
Careers coordinator Rebecca Hamment said, like the upcoming careers expo, work experience was a chance for students to find out more about the variety of careers available to them.
“What we encourage in Year 10 is for students to increase their aspirations and explore their options,” she said.

There was a good mix of trades-based and professional careers, Ms Hamment said.
“It was really positive. We find kids return to school having really enjoyed the experience and grown in confidence.”
Year 10 teachers shared the task of visiting the students at local work places over the two weeks, with some lucky teachers having goodies prepared by the students working in the hospitality sector.
