Williams & Sons Butchery Pockets versus C&W Printing Red Sox
Kyal Furbank versus L Keeley: Furbank with a 20+ start would have fancied his chances against Keeley, and looked to be on his way potting some good balls early. Unfortunately for Furbank though, this would be as good as it got as Keeley used all of his experience to wear Furbank down and post an 86-65 win.
Brad Preston versus Jeff Stait: Preston hasn’t been his usual self this year and this pattern was to continue. Stait from the get go was on song, following on with his form from the first half of the year with a big win, 82-43.
Rob Bender versus Gary Nolan: When Bender is on, you can see balls being forced in at 100mph as clean as a whistle, and this looked to be the case again as he surged to an early lead. However, Nolan has been in good touch recently and was able to absorb it all for a 71-58 win.
Lawrence Creasy versus T Gaynor: It looked to be a case all too familiar for Creasy. Despite receiving almost 20 start, it was Gaynor who surged to an almost unsurmountable lead. Leading by 26 with the colours remaining, it was Gaynors to lose, which he almost did, hanging on for a 51-46 win.
Steve Hewitt versus Rod Denley: After a good win the week prior, Denley was looking to drive home the advantage for Red Sox. To do so however, he would have to overcome Hewitt who has been in some fine form. As hard as Denley tried, Hewitt appeared to have all the answers as he ground out a 54-48 win to guarantee Red Sox the victory.
Shane Eagle versus Shannon Baer: Baer has struggled to find the form of the first competition with Eagle aka the anomaly wrapped in an enigma, alternating wins to losses so far this competition. Compounding the near 30 start was Eagles dead eye potting, eventually running away with an 89-73 victory to further salvage some pride for the Pockets outfit. Shane Eagle and Leo Keeley were named best and fairest for the match.
Lithgow Valley Storage Helmets versus Welchs Highway Smash Jiggers
Ian Bulkeley versus Justin Nelson: Conceding 25 start from the outset, it was imperative Nelson got off to a good start, and he did with runs of 25 and 15 soon catching up following Bulkeley’s run of 14. As hard as Nelson tried, it just wasn’t his night as Bulkeley cleared brown to black for a run of 22 and a 90-53 victory.
I Miles versus Trent Lewis: Miles is as steady as they come and when on form and has the ability to take anyone down. Heading into the colours it was anyone’s game but Lewis’ improved potting proved too much as he potted the green, brown and later on the pink, to secure a 59-33 win.
Rob Farnsworth versus Wayne Lewis: Two players of similar ability and minimal start would seemingly mark for a close match. Unfortunately for Lewis though, Farnsworth was in no mood to muck around. All the way through to the black ball, Lewis could not find his form, resulting in a 65-20 victory to Farnsworth.
Tom Drury versus Wade Barrington: Drury is traditionally a very tough competitor, having maintained a good consistent level of play for a long period of time. But he was up against Barrington who has had a more than impressive start to the JZT winning all three matches he had played up until this point. Drury took it down to the wire but it was Barrington who would continue on with a perfect four from four, winning 44-42.
Dillan McBey versus Kyle Lewis: Lewis kicked off against McBey, who has been in good recent form, hoping to give Jiggers a glimmer of hope in securing a victory. Despite McBey producing some good pots, it was Lewis that was able to hold off the late charge, winning 69-50.
Dallas Thurlow versus Dave Adams: Thurlow was making his debut for the JZT, and what a hard task it would be up against the inform Adams. Adams has been thriving recently against all that have come before him, but it was Thurlow all refreshed, going on to win 61-37 to secure a 4-3 win for Helmets. Kyle Lewis and Rob Farnsworth were the standouts for their respective teams.
Hunter Mining Methods Miscues versus Carpet One Tall Timbers
Brian Nightingale versus Leon Rust: Rust has had quite a lean year in comparison to last year with Nightingale now seeing the balls better than ever. In typical Rust fashion, he quickly motored down the start to bring on a close finish but it was Nightingale who eventually prevailed, 48-47.
Alan Piggott versus Aaron Vandermeer: Despite the ever-improving form of Vandermeer, it was Piggott who was in full control of the match, further solidifying his previous statement of it being ‘their competition’, winning 48-41.
Kevin Tubby Slaven versus Howie Fisher: The only thing for certain with Slaven is terrible joke after terrible joke as his game often fluctuates. After copping a battering in his first outing in his debut game, Fisher was looking to make amends. And that he did, further confusing the handicappers with a 54-49 win.
Brian Bonus versus Mick Andrews: Bonus has had an indifferent start to the competition, potting some good balls but just not getting the result. Andrews was looking to continue this trend as he set out to finally put Tall Timbers in a position to salvage a win. And that he did as he ran away with a 64-49 win.
Matt Tattersall versus Frank Wawn: Tattersall was once one of the better players in the competition, playing off a low negative handicap. In recent years, some indifferent run of results has seen his handicap blowout, giving the impression that he might not be able to reach that level again. However, in recent games, his form has returned and he is starting to look like the player he once was. Much to Wawns dislike, he was on the end of a Tattersall revival. Having raced away with the game, Wawn was left to pick up the pieces and pot the last few balls to prevent a hundred club thumping, losing 81-36. Mick Andrews and Matt Tattersall were named best and fairest for their teams.
Tonight at the Lithgow Workmens Club we see Red Sox host Miscues and Helmets take on Tall Timbers whilst at Club Lithgow Jiggers take on Pockets.
