Lithgow High School (LHS) will be hosting the careers expo on September 5, exposing students from Years 7-10 to inspiring information on a range of career options.
LHS careers advisor Rebecca Hamment said research had demonstrated that students as young as Year 7 needed to be exposed to career options.
“The aim is to increase interest and increase aspirations as a whole for young people in our community,” she said.
“We want to help developing that future focus.”

Ms Hamment said there was plenty of focus on university pathways, as well as options for apprenticeships and industry. To help cater for all of those interests for the students, there would be representatives on hand from universities, colleges, TAFE, Skillset, as well as local industry.
“There will be more providers this year, so there will be a wide range of options on offer,” she said.
“It is an opportunity for students to access career pathways, to directly access information, without having to travel to Sydney, for example, to attend an expo.”
Parents and community members were welcome to attend the day, which will include presentations. Among the organisations presenting will be UAC (Universities Admissions Centre). The presentations will target Year 10 students about subject selection, and Year 12 students about the university application process, early entry and other schemes that are available.
Look out for more information on start times and schedule of events in the lead up to the day on the Lithgow High School Facebook page. Information will also be sent home with students.
The Lithgow High Careers Expo expects to welcome more than 20 providers to the grounds. Each one will be presenting information to assist students with planning their transition from school, in their subject selections and in developing their aspirations for the future.
There are a large number of universities and tertiary study providers attending who will provide information about the courses offered, application process, scholarships and life at university, as well as apprenticeship and trades information.
