August 2 is the big day: Wallerawang Public School student Keeley Collins will be cutting her very long hair to help raise funds for charity.
The hair itself will be donated to Variety, the Children’s Charity to be made into wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy. Funds raised will go to the Simon Williams Memorial Charity.
Keeley’s mum Jamie said Keeley had decided to go ahead with the donation to coincide with memorial activities held at the school in honour of her school friends Simon Williams and Rebecca Karini, who both lost their lives in car accidents in 2015.
Also in the news:
The idea to donate her hair came, her mum said, after reading a Facebook post about a little girl undergoing chemo who had a wig fitted.
“I think I was crying and Keeley wanted to know why,” her mum Jamie said.
“When I told her, she wanted to know where the hair came from.”
“Mum,” she said. “I’ve got really long hair. I could do that.”
Rachael Green will cut 35-40cm of hair at a special assembly on August 2.
To donate, you can make a deposit to Simon Williams Memorial charity account: BSB: 032 829; Account number: 262391. You can email simonwilliams.m.c@mail.com for a receipt.
