With school holidays this week, Wallerawang Public School chose to get in early and host NAIDOC celebrations.
The school’s NAIDOC celebrations were held on Thursday, July 5.
The day began with a whole school assembly including performances by Bob Sutor and the school Aboriginal Dance Group, led by Ceane Towers.
The day continued with students playing indigenous games, participating in art activities and working together to create a large mural of the Aboriginal flag.
The P&C were working hard behind the scenes making dampers, which were distributed to each class, served with bush honey.
NAIDOC Week 2018 is marked nationally between Sunday, July 8 and Sunday, July 15.
This year’s celebration theme is ‘Because of Her, We Can!’, recognising the vital role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played in promoting Aboriginal culture and passing on Dreaming stories.
The National NAIDOC Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Conference will take place in Sydney on July 11 and 12.
