A father and son were airlifted for treatment to injuries sustained underground at Clarence Colliery on Wednesday, July 4.

The older man, a 55-year-old, suffered injuries to his right arm, shoulder and left leg and was airlifted to Westmead by helicopter just after midday.
A spokesperson for his employer, Centennial Coal, said he remained in hospital to undergo surgery for multiple fractures to his femur.
His 26-year-old son was treated for a minor head injury and airlifted to Liverpool Hospital. He was released in the evening on Wednesday.
“Family members have been notified and offered support,” Centennial Coal said in a statement.
“Our immediate priority is the safety and wellbeing of our people. An investigation into the incident is under way.”
