Inspired by their nans, who both died from breast cancer, St Patrick’s Primary School students Samara Kirkland and Ruby Offner hosted a cupcake and goodies sale at recess on Thursday, June 28.

The fundraising is part of the students’ efforts to raise funds for charity Love Your Sister, founded by Australian actor Samuel Johnson and his sister Connie.
Connie passed away from cancer in 2017.
Love Your Sister’s dedicated goal is to “vanquish” cancer and has raised more than $7 million towards cancer research.
Samara and Ruby are dedicated to doing their bit – with cupcakes.
“We are holding the cupcake stall for breast cancer because both of our nans died from cancer and we want to help,” Samara said.
The cupcake sale was a collaborative effort by the Year 2 class.
“The whole class helped to make them,” Samara said.
Cupcakes, slices and biscuits were sold for 50 cents, $1 and $2.

The end of their fundraising efforts will see the girls take part in the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 5km Race on Sunday, July 29.
They were both very excited at the prospect of meeting Love Your Sister’s Samuel Johnson at the event.
The girls expect to walk the track rather than run it, but anticipated they would soon be in training.
Love Your Sister supports the Garvan Institute’s efforts in cancer research and states it aims to free researchers from the “all-consuming grants cycle”.
It is not the first time Lithgow has thrown its support behind Love Your Sister, with Lithgow residents taking part in an art program, making hearts our of fingerprints to raise funds in July 2017.
