Andrew and Jan Lockley, members of a group of four-wheel drive clubs that organise the non-for-profit 4 Wheel Drive Spectacular in Queanbeyan, visited auxiliary volunteers with a certificate for $3000.
Mr Lockley said the spectacular organisers chose charities to donate to before putting on the bi-annual event in February of this year.
“Condobolin, Blayney and Lithgow Hospital Auxiliaries were nominated by the central UHA [United Hospital Auxiliaries] organisation for donation,” Mr Lockley said.
Each auxiliary received $3000.
“It was a surprise!” president of Lithgow auxiliary Jean Hills said.
The Lockleys have been on a road trip giving out the remaining $31,000 the spectacular raised for rural initiatives including Dubbo’s Royal Flying Doctor Service, Queanbeyan SES and outback radio network VKS-737.
“Well, that’s where [rural areas] we enjoy driving,” Mr Lockley said.
Ms Hill said she was not sure yet what the $3000 would go towards.
“We ask for a wish list from the [hospital] CEO, whatever is most needed we will look at that,” she said.
The 4 Wheel Drive Spectacular in Queanbeyan is organised by the Combined ACT 4 Wheel Drive Clubs. Andrew Lockley is the president of the Land Rover Club ACT.
