In rugby league, the Bears went down 24-16 to CSU, in yet to be one of the closest and most exciting games of the year. The university team scored under the posts first within the first set of six, then the Bears had their turn and went under, leaving the score 6-all for majority of the first quarter.
CSU scored again and then the Bears hit back with one of the Bears conversions being unsuccessful.
After the first half the score was 12 – 10 to CSU. Second half saw the ball stay within the Bears half as they tried to keep their attack up to get in front. CSU had quick get aways and was able to find the try line, again similar to the first half the Bears hit back jumping the score to 18-16 to CSU.
With less then five minutes to go the Bears boys were taking in deep breath with CSU scoring with minutes to go.
This was an amazing game for the Bears and all supporters that went and watched the game. Tries for the Bears was shared between Blake Collins who also converted two of the three tries, Zebeadee Farr for his first try of the season and Micheal Yeo. Kaleb Ritchey received two points from the referee and this week’s Zambrero coach’s award went to a new young player Brayden Sellers.
In league tag, the Bears girls played at 3.30pm in freezing conditions against CSU Blue. Both teams had players out which meant that all players on the field had to play the whole 50 minutes.
Unfortunately the Bears went down 42-0. All girls tried so hard but were unable to stay with the fit and experienced CSU team. The crowd’s points this week went to Monique Millmore (3), Marli-jai Hydee (2) and Renee Kable (1).
The Workies Club and Motel Players’ Player went to Deanna Collins.
The Bears presented the awards at the Bears major sponsor the Lithgow Workies Club.
