The team is through to the quarter finals of the state competition after a 3-2 win over Pennant Hills at Marjorie Jackson Oval on Sunday, June 3.
Brad Luka was a standout in the game, scoring two goals, while Daniel Bosman took the remaining goal.
Workmen’s Club president Mark Fordham praised also the work of Ben McGlinn, who was very strong at centre back.
It was all the Workmen’s Club way in the first half, finishing 2-0 up, while keeper Dane Russell made a great save to keep Pennant Hills out. It was a tough day for Russell, however, who suffered a leg injury just before half time that took him out of the game.
He’s not used to the role of goal keeper, but Craig Walding stepped up to the role for the second half.
The second half started well for the Workies, who potted their third goal home.
Pennant Hills fought back hard towards the end of the game, taking two goals in quick succession and fighting for a third. Their comeback was hindered when one of their players was sent off the field for back-chat.
The Workmen's Club team will go on to play Coogee United Football Club on June 16.
It is set to be a challenging weekend for the Workies team, whose regular Sunday match against Panorama Red will be moved to Friday night as part of the celebrations of the opening of the new Bathurst Proctor Park grounds on Friday night.
