Lithgow’s Girl Guides spared their Monday afternoon to raise funds for the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal, collecting donations outside Woolworths.

Guide leader Cheryl Rutherford said local shoppers were supportive of the cause.
“Afternoon shoppers were dug deep to assist the Lithgow target,” Ms Rutherford said.
“The Girls Guides showed maturity, respect and were very pleasant to the customers.”
Lithgow’s Salvation Army is aiming to raise $8000 to go towards the appeal.
The Girl Guides’ fundraising effort contributed more than $300 to the target.
Lithgow Salvation Army’s Teresa Pilla said the branch had raised $5000 as of Wednesday, May 30, but would be continuing to collect donations at Lithgow Valley Plaza until Sunday, June 3.
The Red Shield Appeal is an annual fundraising event that runs over April, May and June, with funds going towards The Salvation Army’s community programs and services such as family welfare assistance, refuges for women and children, homeless shelters, emergency and disaster relief and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
