The Humpty Dumpty Foundation and the LJ Hooker Foundation donated two Radical-7 Pulse Oximeters valued at $4440 each to the Inpatient Unit.
By shining a light through the baby’s finger or toe the Radical-7 Pulse Oximeter measures the amount of oxygen in their capillaries.
This ensures correct and safe oxygen delivery during highly critical times, in an effort to prevent damage to organs such as the brain, eyes and lungs.
Lithgow nurse unit manager Danell Thompson said the new equipment filled a gap for the hospital. The monitors would now be used only for children patients, instead of having to reprogram adult monitors for use.
“They are in use for all of our post-operative kids now,” she said.
The probes on the monitors can be changed as needed to allow for observation of newborns, infants and paediatric patients.
The donation came from funds raised at LJ Hooker’s charity auction in September. LJ Hooker Lithgow LJ Hooker principal Jamie Giokaris said the event was greatly supported by residents and businesses.
“LJ Hooker Lithgow is proud to join the rest of our LJ Hooker partners in supporting the Humpty Dumpty Foundation to make a tangible difference in the communities in which we live and work,” he said.
“Through the LJ Hooker Foundation, we’ve been able to work with the Humpty Dumpty Foundation to identify and source medical equipment needed locally.
“It means the money contributed by local businesses and community members is directly benefiting local children in need. The donation of the Radical-7 Pulse Oximeters to Lithgow Hospital is a great example of this.”
Lithgow Hospital general manager Jill Marjoram said it was important to acknowledge the level of community support that results in updated equipment for the hospital.
