And sometimes, the work of an individual catches the eye of the Rydal Village Association.
On May 22, Lithgow High School Year 12 student Ewin Hansen received a $1000 donation towards an overseas excursion with CMT Aussie Kids, in which he will act as a mentor.
Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) disease, named after the doctors who discovered it, results when the myelin sheathing insulating nerves in the body has not formed properly.
This year, the organisation, which hosts three days camps every year, will be heading to the UK and Ewin has been seeking sponsorship to allow him to travel with the group as a mentor.
Ewin said the support needed by each child varied, from help with shoe laces to cutting up food.
The trip, which included travel around the UK, is expected to cost $7000.
This would be the 18-year-old’s first trip overseas.
“It will be exciting to see something that is not Australia, something that is completely new,” Ewin said.
Ewin is well known to the Daffodils at Rydal festival, where he has donated his time for the last 10 years, starting by helping out his dad at the age of eight.

He’s been involved in every aspect, from setting up, emptying the rubbish, serving meals and welcoming visitors.
“His contribution has been commendable,” Rydal Progress Association secretary Carolyn Andison said.
During its years of the festival, the Rydal Village Association has raised more than $300,000 for Lithgow charities.
