The open boys team of Lithgow High School have secured their place in the state finals of the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association knockout basketball competition, defeating Castle Hill on Tuesday, May 22.
The team will progress with Lithgow’s girls team to the state finals in Terrigal in June, where they will face off against the top eight teams in NSW.
Coach Tim Lloyd said the team had only lost one game this season.
“It’s the furthest we have got in a long time,” he said.
“In at least seven years.”
On Tuesday the team added to their victories with the solid defeat of Castle Hill High School 99-79.
The squad is made up of students from Year 9-12.
Hayden Cox, Mitch Gurney, Fletcher Swift and Zeke Evans led the scoring for Lithgow on Tuesday.
