Lithgow High School has strong academic and sporting traditions and is successful in providing a broad curriculum for students from Lithgow and surrounds.
Continued success is reflected in achievement across all key learning areas, with ongoing regional, state and national awards for student filmmaking, outstanding results in Visual Art, and consistent improvement and outstanding academic achievement in the HSC.
Last year’s exceptional success saw all Year 12 students receiving their HSC and final ATAR ranking. Excitingly, as well as the students with ATARS above 90, a large number achieved scores of 80 and above. The school is proud that, out of a cohort of 95 mainstream students, more than 45 university offers were made.

Strong linkages are in place between the school, TAFE, Charles Sturt University and the Western Sydney University Lithgow Campus, helping to provide opportunities for everyone to succeed. The school is increasingly working with community and academic partners to broaden subject options, including broader and more flexible vocational options in stages 5 and 6 of the curriculum and an exceptional Work Experience program for all Year 10 students.
The expectation at Lithgow High is that students are respectful, safe, responsible learners. The school is part of the Positive Behaviour for Learning initiative and Vivo rewards program. Vivo is a web-based system that rewards students for positive behaviour inside and outside the classroom. Encouraging students to save reward points and redeem them in an online shop, Vivo is for the whole school, helping to improve attendance rates, academic performance and enrich behaviour and well-being.
Additional staff, resources and training enhances performance in literacy, numeracy, technology, leadership and learning.
