The all-conquering girls’ basketball team from Lithgow High School has continued its form to win through to the State finals.

The team has been top class since it came together in Year 7, winning through to the State finals every year. In 2017 they won the Under 15’s title.
In 2018, they will be in contention for the Open crown.
The team, which was representing the Western Region, met Cranebrook High School, the Sydney West champions, at the Lithgow stadium on Monday, May 14.
The Lithgow team won 45-32. Team coach Tim Lloyd attributed the win to the girls’ outstanding team defence.
“There were good players on that [Cranebrook] team and 32 was a low number for a team of that quality to be kept to.
“They defended well as individuals and as a team.”
Throughout the competition the Lithgow players have been challenged by opponents significantly larger than they were.
Mr Lloyd said that challenge would continue when they contested the final, which would be played in Terrigal next month.
“They are a great bunch of students and athletes, they’re tough, they’re a committed side, a tough side, and they also give 100 per cent in a game or in training,” he said.
“They have been a pleasure to coach right from the beginning. They are great kids.”
The girls team has been guided by their coach and team manager Debrah Farebrother.
Lithgow High School’s open boys basketball team will also be playing for a spot in the State final when they play Castle Hill at Lithgow’s indoor stadium on Tuesday, May 22.
