Before the 2018 Group 10 competition started, coach Graeme Osborne said the team’s goal was to win the triple run of home games opening the season.
The Workies now only have one opportunity to fit in a home ground win before hitting the road.
“It will turn. We’re planning for it. We’re trying to stay in the game and we have been working pretty hectically on our completions.”
Osborne said their losses have been due to multiple factors.
“Yeah, looking at the conditions we were playing in last week with the strong wind, you’re not going to be playing very attractive football. But you still can’t handover as much ball as they did,” he said.
“It’s just footy I think. There’s a lot of new faces on the side and we missed having a trial so it’s a culmination of things.”
With centres Cody Godden and Greg Alderson off with injuries, the Workies have had to swap players into new positions.
Ryan Jervis will also be out after fracturing his ankle in round two.
“We’re trying to get a few combinations going and putting people in different positions so there are players’ trying to learn new roles,” he said.
“They just don’t have much time to learn them.”
Osborne said all the players have been training hard to improve their game.
"They’re all on the same page it’s just getting that aptitude on the game day. Once you lose that momentum it takes a fair bit to get it back. That’s the drama.
“We stuck with Oberon for 25 minutes, it was nil all, but in the second half it just fell apart. We’ve got to compete for the full 80 minutes.”
While the premier side has struggled, Workies’ under 18s team has proved a success story winning both its opening matches.
“It’s good, especially when you see so many kids on the side. It’s a real success,” Mr Osborne said.
Workies take on Mudgee at 1.45pm on Saturday, April 28, at Tony Luchetti oval.
