Mayor Stephen Lesslie said the breakfast meeting, which included Deputy Mayor Wayne McAndrew and Cr Cassandra Coleman, included discussions on mental health services, aged care, federal assistance grants and jobs.
“I understand the Federal Opposition Senators have a watching brief over government represented areas, and Senator Keneally has responsibility for the Federal seat of Calare and we are grateful to Councillor Coleman who played a key role in attracting the Senator to meet with Councillor McAndrew and myself,” Cr Lesslie said.
Cr McAndrew said Senator Keneally had undertaken to assist council in making conact with members of both the Federal Government and Federal Opposition to advance the interests of the community.
“We are planning such contact in mid June this year when attending Canberra for the National Local Government Conference, and the loss of coal-fired power stations in our area, the future of power generation, and jobs in the power industry will be high on our agenda,” he said.
