Lithgow City Councillor Maree Statham and returning Ironfest ‘Fashions at the Fest’ judge has shared some style ideas to embrace your wild side at this year’s Ironfest.

Ms Statham said the ‘Wild West’ theme was the perfect reflection of Ironfest’s home in regional NSW, with boots, Akubras and jeans already populating many local’s wardrobes.
“I think this will be one of the first years the theme is carried through to a big degree,” she said.
“I don’t think we will ever have seen so many hats at Ironfest.”
She said that a gun-slinging western look could be achieved through accessories and adding elements like fringing and feathers to everyday items.
“I hope people will really embrace the theme, accessorizing with stirrups, whips, diamantes, fringe jackets and cravats. I’m going to wear animal print but I think I will see a lot of check, gingham and broderie anglais.”
Ms Statham, whose outfits are always a highlight of the festival, said she would be attending as a cowgirl but suspected saloon girls, sheriffs, and mercenaries would be popular costume choices.
“I often give the advice of ‘not too short, not too low and not too tight’, but I am not sure that applies this year.”
She said she’ll be looking for outfits that go the extra mile.
“I met a man dressing as a cowboy who has made a leather pouch for his gun, using leather stripping, and it looked just great.
“I’ll be looking for creativity and additions that add authenticity to the costume, like homemade elements.”

Registration for the Ironfest fashion competition will be held at 10.30am on Saturday at Tony Luchetti Showground. It’s free to enter the contest with tickets to next year’s Ironfest up for grabs.
