Lithgow Public School commemorated Anzac Day at a special assembly on the last day of school before the holidays on Friday, April 13.

The students were joined by special guests John Barlow OAM from Lithgow RSL, Member for Bathurst Paul Toole and Mayor Stephen Lesslie.
The service was opened by the school’s Didgeridoo ensemble and the choir sang ‘Lest We Forget’. Former student Josh Constable performed the ‘Last Post’ and the ‘Rouse’ followed by a minute’s silence.
John Barlow made a speech on Australian soldiers’ importance in international conflicts.
“On Anzac Day we remember the sacrifice made by our troops for our country. We show our support for those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” he said.
“We are some of the few that live in a free, democratic country. It’s special because you are special.”
He did not leave without giving the primary students some homework.
“I want to give you all a job. I want you to become ambassadors for peace and maintain this country,” he said.
After the ceremony school leaders went with the guests to lay wreathes at the school’s memorial gates.
The school will be decorating its gates for Anzac Day on Monday, April 23.
