The Main Street gallery has invited musicians from the Mitchell Conservatorium to perform at the gallery in a free concert as part of May’s LithGlow festival. 

Throughout the concert four local artists including Jessica Leffley, Sean O’Keefe and David Newman-White will be creating works live in response to the music. 

Four weeks later the artists will present the completed artworks with an improvised response from the instrumentalists. 

Sharon Howard, the gallery’s owner, said she wanted to create a cutting-edge event for Lithgow. 

“It’s a three hour performance and the idea is that the public can come in and out and be part of the audience. We wanted an event that would promote LithGlow on the same day,” she said. 

“It’s an opportunity for music and art to tell a story together. It will challenge the skills of the artists and the musicians."

The first part of the project ‘The provocation’ will run from 12.30-4pm on Saturday, May 12, and the works will be presented on June 16 at 12.30. 

Six months since the gallery’s opening Ms Howard said she has already got a full program of exhibitions planned into next year. 

“We’ve featured in excess of fifty artists and sold numerous paintings, pottery, basketry, glassware and bespoke furniture.

“We’ve received outstanding support opening in the Lithgow district, and it seems like the gallery is providing a needed service in the greater community.” 

On Friday, April 13, Gang Gang will open the exhibition of Blue Mountain’s contemporary artist Pleasance Ingle, which reflects upon the passing of time in rural Australia. 

The gallery’s following feature artist will be Chris Stevenson, opening on May 12. 

Gang Gang is also hosting art classes for 8 to13-year-olds throughout the school holidays and Term 2. You can find more information about events on the Gang Gang Gallery’s website.
