“You can’t make too many changes to Ironfest, it has to be evolution rather than revolution,” Ironfest production manager Boris Hunt told the Mercury when the 2018 theme was announced.

“We’ll be focussing a lot on bush rangers, outlaws, bullion robberies, that early Australian historical stuff. I don’t expect a lot of gun-slinging John Wayne types because people know they can take it further than that,” he said.
Celebrating it’s 18th year Ironfest has grown since it first started in 2000 as an event to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the birth of steel in Australia. It started with 400 attendees in the Main Street of Lithgow, and last year hosted 18,000 at the showground.
