Kearney, who helped the Dogs to premiership glory on Saturday, polled 14 votes to win comfortably from Greater Western Sydney’s Courtney Gum, teenage Collingwood defender Chloe Molloy and Fremantle’s Dana Hooker on nine votes.
However, Kearney’s future at the Bulldogs looks in doubt, with the cross-code star (Kearney is also a WBBL cricketer) tipped to join expansion club North Melbourne next season.
Molloy was rewarded for her brilliant first season, named rising star after an excellent campaign in defence. She also earned selection in the All-Australian side as a back pocket.
Nine players from the 2017 All-Australian side retained their spot in this year’s side. Adelaide co-captain Chelsea Randall was selected at centre half-back and named All-Australian captain, while Melbourne’s Daisy Pearce was named vice-captain. Demons Karen Paxman and Elise O'Dea, Brisbane Lions pair Emily Bates and Sabrina Frederick-Traub, Carlton’s Tayla Harris and Western Bulldogs pair Emma Kearney and Ellie Blackburn were the others to hold spots in the side.
