Central Tablelands Local Land Services (CTLLS) is encouraging people to have their say on the draft Central Tablelands Regional Strategic Pest Animal Management Plan.

According to the Natural Resources Commission, the economic impact of wild rabbits, carp, pigs, foxes, dogs, goats and introduced birds had been estimated at $170 million in NSW.

“This plan sets the strategic direction for pest animal management in the region for the next five years,” CTLLS general manager Chris Cumming said.

“Pest animals pose significant threat to threatened species, with feral pigs alone impacting on 361 species and ecological communities listed as nationally threatened.

“[The plan will] guide resourcing and investment dedicated to coordinated pest animal management.”

The draft plan has been developed in collaboration with the Central Tablelands Regional Pest Animal Committee, said CTLLS manager biosecurity and emergency services Clare Hamilton.

Ms Hamilton said the plan prioritised pest animals in our region, based on the level of impact and outlined how government agencies, community groups and landholders would share responsibility and work together to prevent, eradicate, contain and manage their impact.

“The management of pest animals is a complex and challenging situation which cannot be ignored. We can only win the fight by working in partnership,” she said.

Information sessions are being held across the region to explain how the plan was developed and how to provide input into the final plan. For more information head to www.lls.nsw.gov.au.
