NSW Rural Fire Service and Forestry Corporation crews continue to work to suppress the fire in Wolgan Valley.

The fire has grown slightly to the north east under the escarpment.

The area is difficult to manage due to the hot, dry and windy conditions in now very steep terrain. 

Ground crews and aircraft will continue to focus on this area to control the fire.

More crews will be on site by 5pm today to assist.

Wolgan Road remains under controlled conditions whilst crews work to control the fire. 

EARLIER 4.12pm: 

The Wolgan Road fire is still out of control and has grown to approximately 10 hectares in size. 

Chifley-Lithgow RFS’ main priority is to bring it under control tonight in advance of deteriorating conditions tomorrow. 

Strong westerly winds are expected on Wednesday, February 14 with winds between 30-50km/h in the afternoon and temperatures soaring up to 30 degrees. 

The fire is currently burning below and above the escarpment next to Wolgan Road. 

There are heavy plant, ground crews and aircraft battling the fire.  

There is no risk to life or property at this time. 

Chifley-Lithgow RFS has been in contact with residents and the Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley resort, with no impacts expected for them at this stage. 

EARLIER 12.05pm: 

Wolgan Road is currently closed at Wolgans Gap. 

Chifley/Lithgow RFS Inspector Mick Holland said that at a rough estimate it would be about four kilometres past Blackfellows Hand. 

EARLIER: 

A fire on Wolgan Road at Wolgan Valley in Lithgow is currently burning out of control, with fire crews out trying to contain the blaze. 

The fire is two hectares in size and National Parks are working with fire crews to ensure locals’ safety. 

Wolgan Road has been closed for people’s safety due to trees falling across the road. 

District Officer Gary Hanson said that crews were hoping to have the fire contained by this afternoon.
