A group of Lithgow tennis juniors and their parents headed to the Sydney International event on Wednesday January 10 to witness some of the worlds best players up close in action.

“It was good for our young players to witness the effort it takes to be a professional tennis player, both on the court in the warm up, during the game and in the cool down,” coach of the Lithgow juniors, Tracey Green said.
The players were able to get autographs and speak to Australian tennis players Sam Stosur and Daria Gavrilova before and after their practice sessions.
Despite Stosur and Gavrilova both losing their matches, the girls were in high spirits signing tennis balls and shirts for the crowd before leaving the centre court.
After watching these Australian greats Lithgow juniors tennis player Lucy Green represented lower NSW in the NSW Country Challenge.
Lucy attended a training camp at Olympic Park and got to train on the clay courts before the teams went to battle on Thursday January 11 at Paramatta.
With Lower NSW taking the win over Upper NSW, Lucy put in an impressive effort taking 4-1 and 4-2 in the girls doubles, 6-0, 6-0 in the girls singles and 4-1, 3-5 and 13-11 in the super tiebreak mixed doubles.
Tennis Country NSW was split into the Upper and Lower for this event with the Upper juniors being selected from the North West, North East and Northumberland regions while the Lower juniors were selected from Central West, South East and South West regions.
Coaching for the Lithgow tennis club resumes on Saturday February 3.
