The Wallerawang branch of the Central Acclimatisation Society organised to re-home the brood stock rainbow trout, between 60-80cm, from Dutton Hatchery near Tamworth.

The fish had finished their spawning life and would have otherwise been disposed of.

Now they are set to provide plenty of fun for anglers at Lake Wallace.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSWDPI) will be hosting a number of community events on Sunday to encourage people young and old to cast a line.

Wallerawang Gone Fishing Day will have several prizes on offer including kayaks, depth sounders, rods and more.

There will also be a range of things to do away from the fishing competition such as free free kids activities, ice cream and a barbeque run by Wallerawang Public School.

The funds raised from the barbeque will go towards the year six students end of year gift to their school.

Attendees will also have the chance to improve their skills with a free fly casting clinic and expert advice on offer from Pro Guide “AussieFlyFisher” Josh Hutchins, former Commonwealth fly fishing gold medalist Emilio Caggiano and Juan Del Carmen from Advanced Fly Fishing School.

A pest species Red Fin awareness presentation will also help to educate residents about the fish that call Lake Wallace home.

“I encourage everyone to come to this fishing event,” Mr Tang said.

“You don’t have to be a fisherman to win a prize. We’ve got prizes from 227 litre fridges to a hooded four burner barbeque to of course fishing related prizes.

“It's from our great support from our local community businesses which is fantastic.”

Wallerawang Gone Fishing Day will open at 8am and run until 4pm.

Registration is $5 and participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear.

“We won’t discount anyone if they don’t have a rod, we might be able to fix them up and help them out in some way,” Mr Tang said.
