Representing the district in the President title were the Workies’ pairing of Ken Poppett and Col McDonnell.
Col replaced the injured Trevor Mills who unfortunately is on the injured list.
On a very fast green on Saturday, September 2, with the temperature at 27 degrees the pair defeated Orange City 22-16 in the morning and Narromine 26-18 in the afternoon. The final saw the Lithgow boys up against a strong pair from Grenfell.
The morning of the final saw strong winds to start the game and a thunderstorm during the game. The speed of the green dropped after the storm which called for a big adjustment from all players.
The Grenfell boys won the first end with four shots. Then a remarkable second end, saw Grenfell holding shot. Skipper Ken asked lead Col to drive out the shot bowl, which he did. Grenfell could not adjust and Ken dropped another two bowls into the head.
The Lithgow boys achieved a full count of eight shots on this end which is rarely seen at this level. On the 10th end the scores were 11 all. From here the Workies’ pair were not headed and went on to record a strong win 25-15.
The boys now go on to represent the Zone at State level to be held at Ettalong on October 21-22 and the club wishes them well.
